Since NERALLT does a pretty good job of being all things to all people, I thought you might appreciate a call for nominations in a language intended for all.

This Spring, NERALLT members will have the chance to nominate and vote on a slate of officers for the next two years. Those elected will start their new positions officially on July 1, 2011.

Take a look at our Bylaws to get a feel for the roles that the elected officers have in our organization.

The President Elect serves as vice-president and takes over for the President in his or her absence. He or she will also inherit the role of President two years after being elected. The Secretary does just what one might expect, taking minutes for both Board and Business meetings. This is a perfect position for someone interested in getting involved in NERALLT, since there is ample opportunity through meetings to gain a feel for the history and mission of the organization.

The job of Treasurer is also self-explanatory. An added feature in this era of internet banking is the challenge of helping to translate NERALLT’s fee structure into a web interface, though this is not daunting, since the collective of Board Members contains more than one person familiar with these tasks.

The Program Coordinator position is both the most rewarding and the busiest of the organization. This person serves as a member of the Program Committees set up for each of our meetings. This person provides the “institutional memory” for the committee with regards to guidelines for running a conference. At times, this person will also help out with actual conference planning and activities if committee members are unable to do so.

Though it doesn’t say so specifically on the web site, there’s an understanding that Board Members are usually folks who have been members of NERALLT for at least two years.

I urge you to nominate someone (including yourself!) by March 10th, 2011. My time serving on the Board has been endlessly rewarding and we are all desirous of having as many members of NERALLT as possible serve with us.

- Dick House, Immediate Past President
